As for fines: We'll strip all the fines from the system before we do
the GMA. It could have been handled a bit more subtly but if that's
what you folks want that's OK by us. We will do what we can to suppress
fines notices. (What about BFRs?) We'll set Advance not to charge
fines when we download the transactions and we can have that as the
default for as long as desired.
Statistics: David sent me word that what stats get generated by the
downloaded Soft Backup transactions is OK. So I'll generate the usual
Events Statistics just prior to going live on Advance.
Miscellaneous stuff: Depending on how much we can make unattended we may
be able to follow a similiar pattern with Soft Backup as we do with Circ
now. That means we'd do our downloading overnight, not in the AM. That
would allow us to come up at the usual time. The mag-stripe issue with
patrons will continue to be a sticky one.
If it goes OK we may be able to produce notices, etc. You wouldn't be
able to initiate holds but we could notify patrons of holds available.
They might not be on the hold shelf, though.
Soft Backup will produce reports of books that should have gone in
transit. This should lessen the books re-shelved in the wrong location
problem.
There will likely be more available for patron service than we
first thought. It won't be as reliable as the real system but it will
offer some service.
