Here's Heather Miller's response to my query on multi-volume orders.

For multi-volume sets in ADVANCE, we simply use "1" in the copy field
and explain in the GENERAL note and the VENDOR note about the volumes.
We don't alter the title field of records that transfer to the OPAC
because we are using (whenever possible) good RLIN records that we
want to maintain intact to become the actual catalog record once we get
the material. It's not nice, but it hasn't caused us any overwhelming
problems. I believe a forthcoming release will allow for volumes AND
copies.
