I'll make this as brief as possible -- no need to clutter mailboxes!

Whhen the final data transfer is done, is it possible to remove $w and
$e from headings. $w is no longer used and " $e joint author" is a
pre AACR form. By removing these subfields, one has more
information to look at on the edit screen (which is rather small to
begin with ... ), and, IMHO will make editing easier.

Authority records:

It's obvious to me some headings were system supplied and others were
input by GEAC; then, it appears that the headings were updated (e.g.
040=DLC and the leader=Original entry)

Notice the fixed fields (008). It is been my experience that nos. 4-9
have to be filled in, *especially* nos. 7-9 [heading use]. Since I am
on the testing group, and will eventually have to deal with this.
There is no possible way that I can get true results. An example of
this is (let us take a subject)

7. Heading use/Main or AD: b
8. Heading use/subject AE: a
9. Heading use/series AE : b

Without these codes in place, one can use a 6XX *anywhere* in a field
which is controlled, and have it be valid. Imaging the following ME:
Harvard (Mass. : Town) -- Social life and customs -- 18th century.
Whitout appropriate codes, this would be valid.

I have NOT made any permanent changes to ANY records, as I have been
told not to, so I really can not PROVE my above argument.
Considering how an automated authority control structure works, I am
certain of my results.

Please advise. -- Thanking you for your time.

bobby.
