If you decide to hire a tutor to supplement your homeschooled child's education, choose carefully. Make sure that the tutor has a degree in the subject he or she teaches. When private schools aren't an option, many are turning to homeschooling as a way to protect students from subpar education and provide them with unique learning opportunities. Whatever your reason for considering homeschooling, the tips below should help you along the way.
Remember that when you are homeschooling you do not need to follow a classroom set up. The learning environment can be a lot more flexible, and you can tailor it to fit you and the child's needs. If your child has a hard time rising in the morning, instead of trying to teach them, chemistry at 7am, start their classes a little later in the morning or later in the afternoon.
It is important to incorporate recess into your homeschooling routine. Recess at public schools are becoming shorter and shorter, but it is an important time for your child. It is a time for them to expel their extra energy, which enables them to concentrate better while they are learning. Try to incorporate a few of these breaks in your child's day.
Many children learn through experiencing things for themselves. When learning about certain cultures, make native foods and items that are unique with your child. For instance, your children may cook perogies and cabbage rolls to go along with a lesson about Stalin. If your children are studying World War II, immerse them in the culture of that time such as popular music, food and fads. There's nothing like using all five senses to learn about a topic.
The curriculum you choose should not put restrictions on what your kids are learning. Use the books as tools to guide you in the direction your kids need to go in schooling. Take the information from the books and build a learning platform that your kids will do well with. If that means that you are skipping a non-critical lesson or two that is fine.
Map out a plan for your child's education each year. Teachers plan their lessons out ahead of time, and so should you. Before you begin your children homeschooling program, write out your educational goals and how you will accomplish them. Using this tactic will help ensure that your child will gain the information, he needs to get a worthwhile education.
