Since I posted earlier Hotwire instructions for GeoPac, I wanted respond to
Grant's points.

The Hotwire distribution _does_ install GeoPac from Windows. The
instructions you get when you run the Hotwire script tell you to run the
setup program that is shipped with GeoPac.

We have been running GeoPac on a number of the older AST machines
without incident... but this point is well taken. Beware and communicate
problems you run into to the System's Office or OPAC team members.

The Hotwire distribution _does_ take care of this for you.

This is a significant issue. We should not use GeoPac frivilously...
right now we should be using it for testing and training only.
One problem is that GeoPac can crash and leave a "port" in use, thus
eventually preventing new GeoPac users from connecting to our database.

I hope this clears up some of the confusion. The bottom line is that the
Systems Office will be developing a permanent method of distribution for
GeoPac.
