Here's a little guide synthesized from the work of Linda and Suzanne
combined with an outline I had done previously.

		GEAC ADVANCE OPAC  


LOGIN (telnet emmy; opac/opac95)  Exit (New Search; type E)
	Caseless; ignores punctuation		


SEARCH SELECTION SCREEN
   	A.  Select command     (Help if needed)
        B.  Reserved commands: E exit OP/RE  change/reset search parameters

	--Browse looks for first word in alphabetical list.
	  Good when first few words or characters are known.
	--Keyword looks anywhere; spelling crucial, word order not;
	  Boolean operators usable. Truncate * before OR after

	Author Browse (cf. F5 in CDBarton), last name first.
		Puts you into alpha index to choose from; no hits.

		A1=personal author browse
		A2=corporate author browse
		A3=conference name browse	

	Author Keyword (cf. Enter in CDBarton) gives available hits.

	
	Title/Subject Browse puts you into alpha index.
	Title/Subject Keyword gives available hits.

	Browse All is dictionary catalog crossing all fields.
		e.g., wood as au/til/sub
	Keyword W= (cf. Anyword in CDBarton)

	Series Browse puts you into alpha index.
	  spie v. 648 ignores vol no. but puts v somewhere in list.
	  spie 648 puts item at beginning of list.
	Series Keyword gives available hits.
	  spie v. 648 or  spie 648 yield nothing until system fixed.

	Keyword NW for notes field.
	Call number c= is a browse search.


	C.  Expert Searches

	Enter term preceded by search command and =:
	SW= (sun OR solar)  AW=(united NOT states)  TW=polic*
	Or enter SW= and enter.  Without the =, system will do search
	based on search type currently highlighted.


OPTION BAR:  Choices depend on where you are.
	     Spacebar or letter; hit again if > one option with that letter.
	     If no menu/option, it's a prompt; type data or Enter to escape.

	All:  view all records retrieved; available on Title Summary
		Lists screen.  Brief bib info.
	Backward:  moves you back within a list or record.
	Change Options:  available in OPAC Parameters screen; lets you
		change Current Qualifications:  sublocations, e.g., Dewey;
		Bib Display: full, Marc, brief; No. of Display lines
	Change Limits:  available in Modify Search screen;
		limit by date, ed., lang, material type, series vol.  
		Enter to move through limits; when you reach end of choices, 
		message will be Proceed with Search.
	Edit Search:  available in Modify Search screen; lets you
		retype to correct spelling or add Boolean.
	Extend Search:  find related works by searching on
		til/au/call nos. from retrieved record (jumps indexes).
	Forward:  moves you ahead within a list or record.
	#Line:    choose item number(s)  1 OR 1-4 OR  1, 3, 7
	Modify Search:  Edit or Change Limits (see above);  when
		search has been done, a message may follow like 50 titles,
		15 tested.  To see final results, hit Forward until you
		get 50 titles in list, 8 after limits.
	New Search:  start a new search.
	OPAC Parms:  change OPAC parameters to tailor your results.
		(see Change Options above). (note auto-select/view)
	Prior Screen:   takes you to previous level of search.
	Review Search:  lets you review your search strategies.
	Sort:   sort by au/til, til/au, pub date.
	Review search:  review your strategy.
	Reset:  puts back to default any changes you made to OPAC Parms.

	Printing:  with auto-select/view set to Yes/No; from Heading
		Browse/Summary, Title Summary, Detailed Display


THREE LEVELS OF RESULTS

    	A.  Heading Browse/Summary list
            1.  From alphabetic search move forward/backward or jump.
            2.  From keyword headings retrieved select some or all.
	
	B.  Title Summary List
            1.  From titles retrieved select some or all.
            2.  Prior Screen back to Heading Browse list.

        C.  Detailed Display
            1.  Formats:  Brief (normal default)  Full  MARC
            2.  #item display.
            3.  Order display.
            4.  See Next/See Previous.
            5.  Prior Screen back to Title Summary
		(or Heading Browse if heading with one title attached).
