Greetings, list subscribers. It's been a while now since I started running
the list and I thought it was time I sent out one of those emails about how
things are being run.
In case any of you are wondering, I'm running with a very fascist policy on
mail bounces. More to the point, if I get a bounce from your site, and I
can't work out who the email was actually meant to goto from the bounce
message, I'll simply remove all people from that site. Yes, there are
mailers out there, whether it be configuration changes or no, that are not
the most helpful when it comes to dealing with bounces (and many of them
seem to be run by the bigger commercial people...). And to top it off,
postmasters who don't reply to email although it says "mail joe bloggs
about this problem if...". Sigh.
Also, I've recently banned sites from the list because of problems with
spam (not just receipt, but being used as a relay). I've no qualms about
this, especially if the site has a reputation (in my mind) for being
involved with spam. I strongly encourage you all to avoid having anything
to do with such sites and direct people elsewhere too, if at all possible.
If you do get caught up in that but still want to read the list, please
subscribe from an address which doesn't mention the offending providor
anywhere. I will let to be ex-subscribers know about action I intend on
taking, if it should happen again.
Also, on that subject *PLEASE* make sure if you have an MX that your MX
will relay email onto you! I'm seeing bounces due to this too now.
Anyway, back to the good stuff.
Cheers,
Darren
p.s. sorry for the delay, I try to process as many of the bounce messages
as I can and it took quite a while this time O:)
