I just wanted to thank everyone for the great information on becoming a
"project-based consultant" technical writer.
Some response were encouraging, some realistically discouraging, but all
were meaningful and detailed. Although I had high hopes for good
information when I posted to this list, I got much more than I expected.
I've always been leery of striking out on my own, because of the need to
constantly network, and market yourself, at least in the early days. I also
am aware that changes to corporate policy, and competition from low-priced
"alternatives" are making it harder to get good employment. So I hope I
know what I'm getting into.
But I'm fortunate that I have health insurance through my spouse, and I am
hoping to make a go of it, for at least the next few years. The information
I got from all of you should help me succeed!
