Dear fellow ResNetters:

The ResNet 2002 Symposium is just a few short months away, and program
submissions will only be accepted until March 8th.

When the ResNet Symposium started in 1994, the original organizers
predicted it would have a lifespan of about 5 years. But as ResNet
programs evolved into what they are today, new technologies and new ways
of thinking have directly affected the ResNet programs we implement and
support.

With this in mind, this year's ResNet Symposium will include a theme
called "Emerging Frontiers." (The official listing for this theme is at
the end of this message.)

Are you working on any innovative projects that implicitly or explicitly
involve your ResNet program? How does your organization adapt to new
technologies, such as the proliferation of peer-to-peer file sharing,
and personal electronic devices? Now that your dorms are wired, what's
your next step with your technology? How are you merging different
technologies together to better serve your school's community? We want
to hear from you!

Go to the ResNet 2002 Symposium site for more information, and to submit
a presentation proposal: http://resnet2002.buffalo.edu/

Looking forward to seeing everyone in June...

        - Mike L. :-)

Emerging Frontiers:

ResNets are ever-evolving organizations due to external influences that
fringe their borders. These influences are new concepts, technologies
and ideas that presently impact or will impact a ResNet program. Thus
topics in this theme will look to review those influences such as PKI,
LDAP and directory service, Peer-to-Peer, access to and delivery of
digital content, and non-technical concepts such as the creative uses of
space to facilitate learning and collaboration. You could consider
presenting on these as an informative session or how you and your
institution are involved with these influences.
