>Is your computing help desk staffed by students only? If yes how many? =
If no, is it split, or all full time staff >members?=20
=20
The ResNet hotline is staffed from 10-5, M-F by my RCCs. The other =
full-time staff member and I cover the line from 8am-10am, or whenever =
the RCCs can't make it in.
=20
>What are the responsibilities of the student employees?=20
=20
They are Residential Computer Consultants, paid to assist ResNet users =
in accessing the network (everything from installing NICs to =
reformatting/reinstalling an OS if a host has been compromised).

>Are there different level positions within the Computing Help Desk? =
Example, we currently have >Student Consultants and Student =
Assistants.=20
=20
No, the only distinction we have is RCC/Senior RCC. Senior is at least =
one year with us and excellent performance during that time.

>What is the pay scale for student employees
=20
$250/mo regular RCC, $375/mo for senior RCCs
=20
>Do students support students only, or do they support faculty and staff =
as well?=20
=20
Student residents only.

>Do students go onsite?=20
=20
Their primary function is on-site work. The phone hours/help desk is =
something I snuck into their contracts at the last second ;)

>Do you have trouble filling the positions you need each term or =
semester? How do you advertise your >positions?=20
=20
Don't know yet, but I don't think so...it seems to be a very highly =
sought-after position. I'm still thinking about the advertising part.

>What is your policy for not showing up for a shift? Being late? Or, =
needing a sub?=20
=20
Nothing severe for the phone hours. Provided they are getting their =
workorders done in a timely fashion and performing well on a regular =
basis...I expect a lot, but I give a lot for meeting those expectations.

>What kind of training sessions do you provide for student employees? =
Are there mandatory weekly >meetings for updates, once a month?
=20
I do a training week for all the RCCs one week prior to the beginning of =
Fall Quarter. They receive training from 8-3, every day. I am able to =
adjust that number of hours based upon the skill sets of those coming =
in, and how many are returning from the previous year.

>Do students do triage?=20
=20
If need be, sure.
=20
=20
