Is your computing help desk staffed by students only? If yes how many? =
If no, is it split, or all full time staff members?=20
Our ResNet help desk is staffed by 6 student techs and 1 full-time =
employee.=20
What are the responsibilities of the student employees?=20
Our students are responsible for hardware/software installation in =
relation to ResNet and its services. They also are responsible for team =
projects, educational documents for residents and other =
hardware/software issues, as assigned.=20
Are there different level positions within the Computing Help Desk? =
Example, we currently have Student Consultants and Student Assistants.=20
Our students fall into three categories: (1) Support Center Leader-Top =
Tier; (2) Residential Computer Specialists-Second Tier [have been =
employed at least one year]; and (3) Residential Computer Analyst [first =
year employees].=20
What is the pay scale for student employees=20
They all make minimum wage.=20
Do students support students only, or do they support faculty and staff =
as well?=20
They support students 99.9% of the time and occassionally help housing =
staff.=20
Do students go onsite?=20
They do in-office, in-room, e-mail and phone support.=20
Do you have trouble filling the positions you need each term or =
semester? How do you advertise your positions?=20
We did have trouble at first but now do not have as much. Our biggest =
troubles are that we need work-study people and 70% of those who apply =
are not work-study.=20
What is your policy for not showing up for a shift? Being late? Or, =
needing a sub?=20
They are recorded and students are verbally repramanded and them =
written up if the behavior continues.=20
What kind of training sessions do you provide for student employees? Are =
there mandatory weekly meetings for updates, once a month?=20
We have a full week training in the fall and a day training at the =
beginnning of the Spring semester. There are smaller meetings during =
the school year, as well. These are mandatory.=20
