John, looks like you are going to end up with some sort of MicroSloth solution. We at Emory Law school are implementing Novell Internet Messaging for our email system. Also on our Novell server we can host webpages, you put a particular folder (can't remember the name off the top of my head) and your index.html page, then if someone goes to yourdomain.edu/~username they will see your website. Also, they have a Multimedia server also so we can put files up and have them accesible to everyone through their "Real Player". Don't know if any of this is feasible for you, but just another option that is floating around out there. Contact me directly if you have any other questions.

Thanks

Subject: Web Portals/Email

Hello Everyone!

Looking for recommendations for web-based portals being used by other
colleges...

We are in the process of researching web-based portals/email for our
institution (4000+ undergraduate students) and have a short period of time
to implement whatever solution we ight decide upon (pilot by end of April
and full implementation by Fall 2002) so it will probably have to be "out of
the box".

Requirements:
1.Hosting of email accounts for 4000+ students w/at least 5mb per account.
2.Single, web-based sign-on that also allows access/interface with our
student information system (Datatel via Webadvisor) & course/class hosting
provided by Blackboard.com.
3.Reliable, 24/7 support.
4.Scalable to add our Faculty/Staff (750+) at some point.

Additional wish list items:
1.Calendaring
2.Web page hosting
3.Interface with Win2000 Active Directory Domain environment

We are currently considering CampusCruiser and Campus Pipeline, and have
gone through the financial and technical issues of trying to use an Exchange
Server w/Outlook Web Access. Any thoughts, experience or insights on these
products or other alternatives would be very helpful.

Thank you!
