I'm a student worker at the University of Maine Help Desk.
We charge $25 per hour to both visit dorm rooms to install network
cards and to troubleshoot connection problems. We also charge $25 per
hour for computers that are dropped off to be worked on. We typically
have one student tech that dedicates most of their time on this. Virus
removal is a free service. In addition to students, we provide the
same service to faculty and staff members on campus. We do not travel
off campus to work on computers.
The work we perform is limited to software and OS related issues. We
only support external hardware devices. The one exception is the
installation of NICs.
Our IT dept has another group designated as IT Repair that is staffed
with full time professionals. They facilitate on-campus factory
authorized warranty repair service for Dell, Toshiba, Apple, and some
HP laserjets.
Their rates are:
$20.00 minimum bench fee.
$45.00 an hour for in shop or carry in service.
$60.00 an hour for on-site campus work.
We provide on-campus pick up and delivery for only $10.00
-Joe
