Ellen,
Our projects are as follows: **Please note that my 6 tecks work on at =
least two of these projects each semester**
=20
(1) FTP server. We have an on-campus download sever [ =
http://www.resnet.eku.edu/software/software.asp?which=3Ddownloads]. I =
have two students who are responsible for keeping this up-to-date and to =
manage requests.
=20
(2) LAN parties. We sponsor one LAN party per semester and I have two =
students who are responsible for coordinating this event, create the web =
page, register users, get prizes, etc.
=20
(3) Knowledgebase. We have a knowledgebase on our website [ =
http://www.resnet.eku.edu/help/help.asp?which=3Dknowledgebase]. It has =
1,000+ articles and it is still growing.
=20
(4) Flash Ads. We have flash ads at the bottom of our web pages that =
advertise other departments on campus on campus and upcoming events. I =
have a person who works on these occasionally.
=20
(5) Educational documents. Each tech is responsible for creating two =
educational documents [posters, brochures, web pages, etc] each =
semester.
=20
(6) Staff Retreat. I take my techs on a staff retreat near the end of =
each semester. This semester is the first where I am allowing them to =
help me plan this event. We go away for the day to relax, do team =
building "fun stuff", eat, etc...
=20
These projects, again, are only for lag times...we haven't had any yet =
this semester but we do later on...
=20
Hope this helps!
-Lisa

Lisa,

I just took over the ResNet area at University of Cincinnati. One of =
the things I've been pondering is what ResNet technicians can do during =
lag time. Can you give me details of the projects your techs work on =
during the lag time?

Can anyone send me ideas on how to maintain quality control over the =
student staff, ie are they doing their jobs in the evening when the =
boss has gone home? Do you have night time shift supervisors? Are the =
techs under the direct supervision of the residence hall directors? I =
guess what I'm asking is how do you guys maintain student tech =
accountability to ensure that they are doing what they are supposed to =
be doing at night? Any input would be greatly appreciated.=20
