Absolutely. We use Ipswitch's Imail here, which serves our needs very
well (1150 full time students). We also use Sophos anti-virus and Declude,
which links the mail program to the virus program. Sophos has recently
released an Email Virus Gateway program (not sure of the name) and I'm sure
that McAffee and Norton have email virus checkers. We also set up filtering
rules in the email program that doesn't allow delivery of certain
executables. Most mail programs allow you to do this. Of course, you can
also set up specific virus filtering rules, if you don't have access to
email virus software. You wouldn't believe how much I catch.
