We've formed an evaluation committee to start looking at XP with the
mindset of possibly deploying it in the summer deployment (we have three
deployment cycles). Generally our deployment strategy is to come up with
a set of minimum requirements for the new OS and only deploy on those
machines. When machines come into the office that can support the new
OS, they go back with the new one. Otherwise, they don't get redeployed
(except in special cases where people don't need up to date equipment).
I'm not sure what you mean by security levels. All of our users are
administrators on their computers (not our decision, believe me), so it
really doesn't matter. We would like to knock them down to a lower level
so they can't have the opportunity to break things, but the
administration won't let us.
