The problem was the Universal Plug and Play feature. The patch they
talk about protects the computer from future problem but an even
easier immediate fix is to just disable the feature. So far I know
Dell, Gateway, HP, Sony, and e-machines have it enabled by default.
Compaq does not and other brands, like Toshiba I haven't confirmed
yet. So, I now have a reason to like Compaq :)

  The easy fix,
Start
   Settings
     Control Panels
       Add/Remove Programs
         Select "Windows Setup"
            Select "Communications"
Pull down and unselect "Universal Plug and Play"
                  Answer OK twice and restart

********
We are seeing a huge number of Win ME boxes that are locking up and
not working. This was exponential on the 13th of this month. Some
of it was due to the W32.Klez.D@mm virus but many of the computers
show no trace of any virus. The only solution we've had is to
reinstall the system. Anyone with any ideas?
