Good morning folks. One of our desktop support folks sent me the following
email to pass on to y'all. I know we've had discussions about this
before...has anyone had any luck working with Apple on this? Are we missing
something? Thanks for the help!

-Eric

Eric,

I have a favor to request of you.

We currently use a "techadmin" App Store/iTunes account to buy software
from the App Store. We are trying to figure out how to buy that software
through the App Store so that it's not tied to our techadmin account (that
way users can update their software when they need to) but also not tied to
the user's account (so that we are not giving them free software that they
can then re-download if they were to leave the university). Giving them the
techadmin account password is obviously a bad idea. Also, if we download
using the techadmin account, we are paying for one product license, which
means downloading with the same account on a different machine does not
charge us for another product license and thus putting us out of licensing
compliance, something we need to avoid. We have emailed our Apple Rep, but
haven't heard anything back yet. It was also suggested that we have you
email the Institutional Helpdesk...people--I'm not sure I'm getting the
name right. We can't be the only university having this trouble.

So, would you please email whomever you need to to find out what other
universities are doing?

Thanks,
Keith
