Periodically on this list we discuss some of the challenges of dealing with=
the expectations that Apple sets up for our staff, students and faculty ab=
out how they can use Apple devices on our network. Often we have to tell th=
em that it won't work, or we have to perform a number of unnatural gyration=
s to make them work because they are designed to work on a home network. Th=
ere has been an ongoing discussion on the Wireless Listserv regarding one o=
f the more recent examples of this and it was decided that it would we woul=
d attempt to communicate our concerns to apple via a petition.

I would encourage you to look at the petition and sign it if you believe it=
is worthwhile. I would also encourage you to forward it to as many people =
as possible in the education community via email or your favorite social ne=
tworking venue. The more who sign, the better chance we have of getting som=
e attention for these issues. I would also encourage you to talk this up wi=
th your Apple rep if you have the opportunity.

This is the link to sign the petition:

g-admin-group

Following is an example of the expectations that are set up that are often =
very difficult or impossible to achieve on an enterprise network:

"AirPlay Mirroring is made for an audience. Because with a click, what's on=
your Mac is also on your HDTV. It's easy to set up with Apple TV<http://ww=
w.apple.com/appletv/>. Show web pages and videos to friends on the couch, s=
hare lessons with a classroom, or present to a conference room. "

Pete Morrissey
Director of Networking
Syracuse University
