For a number of years now we've been using a home grown (student produced) web based time tracking/scheduling tool. We presented on the first version (done with PHP and MYSQL) at ResNet way back in the day when it was new. This past year we relaunched it in it's new Ruby on Rails glory and we're loving it. I'm fortunate in that we've got an engineering school so finding student workers to continually support it has never been a problem! It allows for shift drop/add (emails available workers that there is a shift they can grab), multiple layers of schedules (one for our supervisors, workers and another for our phone support desk) and even allows for the students to tell us when they're available to work, which makes scheduling so much easier!

Best,

Judi

Hi James. I just went through this and decided on Shiftplanning.com<http://Shiftplanning.com>. I liked WhenToWork also. I can’t remember all of the differences, but Shiftplanning is also a time clock.

Hope that helps.

Subject: Student Scheduling Software Options

Hello Everyone!

I am in the process of investigating a new student scheduling software solution which can be implemented for 17 student consultant positions. This solution needs to incorporate several different aspects:

• Leave Request Submission and Notifications
• Ability to produce varied schedules for frequent changes in student work shifts
• Notifications for schedule changes
• Permission settings
• Mobile compatibility

Last year at the STC at Yale, I was introduced to WhenToWork.com<http://www.whentowork.com/index.htm> and was very pleased with it. However, I would love to hear about other options or solutions you have successfully implemented. Feel free to reply to me directly off the list.

Thanks,
James
