Let's get it done, people! There's ONE WEEK left to register. . . so yell at that
buddy on the next campus over that they need to register NOW!!!

Okay, there's a couple of questions I should answer about the registration.

There are "optional" activities - we call them Networking Activities or Free-Day
Activities - and sometimes bosses don't want to pay for those. Here's how to
pay for the conference and the Networking Activites separately:

First, calculate how much you owe for the conference/PDS/"official" activities
and make that payment via company card, check, whatever.

THEN, using your card, donated blood, whatever. . . pay the amount for
whatever else. You do NOT need to pay all at once.

This way you can keep things all nice and separate. Heck, if you want to, you
can pay for the conference out of one budget, the PDS out of another, and
then the Brewery Tour out of your own pocket - it's UP TO YOU! We like it that
way.

----

Okay, spotlight.

I'm derailing myself just a bit. I'm NOT spotlighting a PDS session this time -
you've already read about most of them (if not all - I can't remember and I
didn't write it down. . .) so you know, and you know where to go to find them
(if you don't, http://www.resnetsymposium.org/resnet2012/pds - simple!)

Instead, I'm going to spotlight the Senti-Merriman Scholarship. This sponsors
up to two student-staff members to attend the Conference. Two student-staff
members are chosen from a pool of nominees who meet various qualifications
and who have made significant impact on "his or her student technology
support program or college/university." Then Jim Rizzo and his committee
reviews the applications and chooses them.

How is this supported? Who pays? Well, I'd love to say that Steve Jobs paid for
it, but that would not be correct. Rather, we support this ourselves via the
Silent Auction. This is a lot of fun and has had a HUGE variety of items in it -
from Jim's homebrew (I MAY be supplying a 4-pack of mine own. . .) to
ceramics to a HUGE stuffed animal that I understand now rides on the back of
a ResNet'er's bicycle. . . (Pics or it didn't happen!!!)

This is a great event and a great program to support. For more information,
check out http://www.resnetsymposium.org/resnet2012/silent-auction or email

I mentioned the Free-Day activities. Surprisingly, they're not full! What's Up
People??? 16 people for the Brew Tour??? I KNOW we IT people love our beer. .
. only THREE for the Getty Museum trip? 15 for the beach? People, it's
Southern California! You have to visit the beach!!! And nine for hiking? Hmmm. .
.

Something's amiss here. If you have questions about the activities, please
respond here or even email me and I'd be happy to let you know more about
them! This is our time to hang out aside from the formal time at the
conference. Honestly, I treasure the time I spent on the ferry at the 2010
conference; I loved dunking Becca and Lara during kayaking at the 07
conference in San Diego; and the pics I have from bumper cars last year. . .
priceless!

If you can, these are great activities. Build bonds with people you don't get to
see very often. Talk shop over a mug of IPA or while hopping across a stream
or while admiring artwork or getting drenched by an unexpected wave. . .
That's what it's about.

----

Okay, I've rambled enough. ENOUGH, I SAY!

The deadline for registration is May 25 - that's NEXT FRIDAY!

Shout it from the mountaintops. Call your friends. Browbeat your neighbors.

Have a great weekend, everyone! Cheerios!
Mike
