Just be mindful of what certificates you will need especially if you have disparate internal and external namespaces and as the number of servers increases. You will need DNS to be working 100% for the autodiscover entries and any SSL certs need to have Subject Alternative Names for any host alias' or "internal only" names. Some providers call these "UC Certificates." Outlook Anywhere (formerly known as RPC over HTTPS) is great when it works but when it doesn't it can be frustrating with users entering and reentering their passwords without them working, locking accounts, different behavior from different networks etc etc.

All of our Exchange 2010 and Sharepoint servers are on closed, internal networks with an
F5 load-balancer in front serving only 80/443, on-campus or off-campus. Nobody connects to them directly.
Our CAS servers also support secure IMAP (993) and mail submission (587) and these services are also provided through the F5s.
You get a consistent behavior regardless of where you are connecting.
