I'm running Intego on my MacBook Pro as I write, and after a bit of
careful configuration, I find it runs pretty well and unobtrusively.
Your mileage may vary, of course, but this Mac user uses antivirus, and
I take many opportunities to remind folks that the Mac isn't inherently
safe.

It's driven by market share more than anything else. The more Macs out
there, the more return to be gained from Mac trojans.
