Funny you should mention the proposal. Mark Ellersick of WCU, who submitte=
d a presentation entitled "What Doesn't It Do? Utilizing Internally Develop=
ed Software to Enhance Your Services for Students", has some scheduling fun=
ctionality built in to his student management software called IGOR. (I don=
't believe he is signed up for this listserv, so I will reply for him) We =
use When to Work, which is pretty good but there are some feature holes. I=
GOR helps augment this system. We can pull a csv dump from W2W and dump it=
in to IGOR. Then we can use the scheduling piece in IGOR to match trainin=
g requests with employee schedules and with the skills those employees have=
to fill the request or deny it.
As far as your requests, the biggest problem we have with W2W is the abilit=
y to specify positions for students to work and splitting them between "cre=
ws". We have some students that can work helpdesk, training, and repair. =
We can schedule them in locations, but we can't put in to that student's pr=
ofile that they are not authorized to ever work repair, for instance. It l=
acks the ability to put what "job titles" or "skills" they can be assigned =
to. Aside from that, W2W will do most of what you want. No AD authenticat=
ion though.
I'm copying Mark in case he wants to correct me.

Subject: Scheduling Software/System
I know this has been brought up over and over and over and over again... an=
d I've heard resounding support for WhenToWork.com, but I've heard it has s=
ome shortcomings. So... I'm curious what people are using (and while this w=
ould make an awesome presentation for the Student Technology Conference, if=
they're still accepting proposals), I'd like some suggestions.
I currently use an Excel spreadsheet with all my shifts laid out. I want a =
system that can do all of the following...
- Weekly shifts that during a specified time period.
- The ability to request coverage for shifts (preferred that students can s=
ee all available shifts for their given position).
- The ability to specify positions that students work (and they can only se=
e shifts for those positions).
- The ability for students to sign up for shifts during a certain time peri=
od that I specify.
- A master list so I can see who is working where at any given time.
- Bonus: ability to log in using Active Directory. :)
I realize I probably want a lot and it might not all be possible... but doe=
s anything like this exist?
