At Duke we just switched from Viewsflash (not sure if that was homegrown or not) to Qualtrics. I don't use as many surveys as some, but it's been light years ahead for me. I find the Qualtrics interface really, really, really easy to use, easy to support, and easy to customize. They also have nice online training resources out of the box (Qualtrics University.) I'd definitely encourage you to check it out and see if it would work for you.
