Subject: Re: Wireless Routers
Our unsecure wireless (Meru) coverage in residential spaces is primarily limited to common areas, so we allow and provide support for student-owned WAPs. Although we recommend specific "access points", most students bring in routers, which we don't allow.
Fortunately our NAC does a good job identifying NAT devices on the network and blocks them accordingly. When a student can't get his router to work, he brings it to our help desk where we show him how to set it up to work as an access point (i.e. to not hand out IP addresses).
