Aside from residence halls, what about other residences on campus? We have a family and graduate housing area that is still an opt-in service. We have a huge deployment in the residence halls because ResNet charges are added to their room and board bill. The way that our wireless registration is set up, students and staff need only authenticate with a domain name and password...in other words, we'd have not any control over who used our network in FGH if we deployed wireless there.
Our problem is that those FGH units were wired 13+ years ago and only wired with one jack per apartment...back when it was decided (pre-me) that families would NEVER have more than one computer. Really, those residents need to use a wireless router. Of course, my solution is to make ResNet part of their rent. ResNet is WAY cheaper than any other provider in town and it would fund our infrastructure.
What do others do in this situation? Do tell.

We have a policy that restricts them, which we enforce, as the use of such devices interferes with the rights of other students to use the dependable, high quality wireless networking that they depend upon.

Do any Universities allow students to bring their own wireless routers and if so do you have policy on them
