For #2,
We setup our Cisco NAC system to automatically create MAC filter for mobile devices after web login. Then we clear those MAC filters every 30 days. This method works for both recognized and non-recognized devices by Cisco. For all non-recognized devices, Cisco put them under OS type ALL and we configure Cisco NAC to create MAC filters for OS type ALL. One drawback of this method is Linux computers can take the advantage because right now Cisco NAC cannot distinguish Android devices and Linux.

Android.
We have had good luck with most of the newer Android models. We had some problems with earlier devices (G1, some of Sprint’s devices, a couple older Motorolas), but most new phones have just required a little tweaking. We supply the customer base with our general settings and then typically refer them to their carriers (or Google) to setup the specific model. If it’s university owned, we just make sure we are recommending models which sync easily with Exchange and support ActiveSync.
I personally use the default mail client on my Incredible and it does all that I need, but many of our staff are using Nitrodesk’s Touchdown. http://www.nitrodesk.com/ Folder hierarchy displays nicely and it’s very robust in its features. It looks to be slightly over the top for the casual user, but works well.

All,
I honestly have a headache.
It’s this big:
(Picture me holding my hands to about the size of a smartphone.)
Some of the things I’m trying to manage:
1) Staying on top of which Android phones actually fully support Exchange synchronization and which require the use of third party applications.
2) Keeping up with NAC registration when students get a new phone from their parents every two weeks and the NAC doesn’t necessarily recognize the new devices yet.
3) Managing iPads in an enterprise environment when Apple won’t give me any real enterprise tools.
4) Figuring out how to help clients from capturing the buzz to actually leverage Kindles, Nooks, iPads and other mobile devices into being useful parts of their operation.
If you have any ideas, I would love to hear from you.
But.
What would be better than just e-mailing me would be if you could give some thought to giving those suggestions or relating your experiences at the Student Technology Conference at the Claremont Colleges this June.
Teaching me things is great! Teaching Southern California is even better! Teaching the world while enjoying Southern California? Not sure you can beat that.
Give it some thought, eh?
And then visit http://resnetsymposium.org/rspm/index/ to sign up and submit a presentation proposal with what you’d like to share with us. You don’t have to have your presentation completed and polished, just a brief description will do. You'll have time between now and the conference to make your presentation shine.
The deadline for proposals is March 1, 2012 at 5:00pm (Pacific Time).
