I am finding https://trello.com/ to be very easy to use for project
management with my student workers. It uses the idea of cards and
custom states to define your project workflow, (I use the concept of a
plane trip: at the gate, on the runway, in the air, holding pattern,
at the terminal, grounded and crash and burn). The usage is simple
enough, that I don't find it cumbersome. You can attach files, pics,
checklists, comments, etc to each card and drag-n-drop, (or use
keyboard shortcuts), to move the card from state to state.
Additionally, you can add and remove assigned staff to each card, and
filter cards.
Finally, it's free.
