Dear ResNet Community,

The ResNet Board of Directors met last week in St. Louis for our annual
Fall Board Meeting. We wanted to take a moment to highlight some of the
things we accomplished during that time as well as give you a glimpse into
what your Board of Directors does. We hope that this information assures
you that we=92re striving to strengthen the ResNet organization, and that i=
t
motivates you to get involved. If you would like any additional details,
please feel free to contact me directly at <loriann.seluga@resnetinc.org>.

You may notice my email address is at a new domain, resnetinc.org. That
brings me to my first announcement: ResNet has a new website. The
information should be familiar, but the look and domain are new. You can
access it at http://www.resnetinc.org. Our old domain, resnetsymposium.org,
will continue to be used to host the conference sites, and you=92ll see if
you visit http://www.resnetsymposium.org that the website for the 2012
ResNet Student Technology Conference at The Claremont Colleges in
Claremont, CA is now live. We will continue to update this site with
information that you are interested in - so if you have suggestions for
content, please direct them to our Director of Communications, Margaret
Landsparger, at <margaret.landsparger@resnetinc.org>.

In addition to the new website for the organization, we also spent some
time putting together an organizational calendar, highlighting important
dates. We understand that it has sometimes been difficult to know what=92s
going on because the dates of when things happen change from year to year.
One of our goals is to achieve consistency and transparency to the ResNet
community, and we are striving to achieve this both through our website and
through this organizational calendar. Expect that in future years the
timing of certain things, like the call for bids to host the conference,
will be consistent from year to year. We also reorganized our internal
documentation to make it easier for members of the Board to access
important information pertaining to the organization and the conference.

As you all know, the annual ResNet Student Technology Conference is the
signature event of the organization. As such, we discussed the recent 2011
Student Technology Conference at Yale and reviewed the results of the
post-conference survey. With this information, we streamlined the
conference hosting process and refined the related documentation. We also
spent some time on a conference call with the hosts from The Claremont
Colleges, to ensure that both the successes and lessons learned were passed
on and to ensure that we continue to put together a conference that we can
all benefit from.

In addition, we also reviewed, revised, and consolidated the roles and
responsibilities of the Board. Please keep your eye out for a call for
nominations as we look to fill vacancies on the Board.

Finally, we began looking into filing for federal 501(c)(3) status. This
would make us a federal not-for-profit organization and allow us to take
tax-deductible donations. In addition, there are some benefits that are
only available to not-for-profit organizations. It would also make us a
tax-exempt organization, which may assist us with budgeting for the annual
conference. We will keep you updated on our progress.

The next organizational newsletter will be sent out in December. Please
keep your eyes peeled for news about the ResNet organization.

Please feel free to send feedback to me directly, or any of the ResNet
Board members (listed below). Our contact email addresses are in the form
of <first.last@resnetinc.org>.
