Northeastern uses a home built system that runs through Ubuntu.
In short we have images of partitions for XP, Vista, and 7, all versions x86
and x64. We have a PXE boot server running that lets us boot to a custom
ubuntu image. That custom image contains a bash script that wipes all
partitions on the computer and recreates the MBR . The script then DDs over
the windows image onto the customer's hard drive and expands the partition
to fit the whole drive.
Our images contain things such as post install scripts and drivers that
automates the process to a working desktop (usually) with firefox, pidgin
and a few other programs.
