<p><font size=3D2 face=3D"sans-serif">- Fordham University enrolls 14,544 s=
tudents.
Of the 7,950 undergraduates, 3,845 live in university managed housing.
The entering freshman class consists of 1,835 students. There are 6,594
graduate and professional students, of whom 208 live in university managed
housing. Students are enrolled at 10 schools of the University.</font>
<p><font size=3D2 face=3D"sans-serif"><b>What incentives exist for your stu=
dent
workers in terms of promotions?</b></font>
<p><font size=3D2 face=3D"sans-serif"> -
We do not have promotions in the majority of our positions. However our
Help Desk has one senior student position that get $2 more per hour; To
earn this position you must be an exemplary regular student employee.</font>
<p><font size=3D2 face=3D"sans-serif"><b>What is the salary structure for y=
our
student employees?</b> </font>
<p><font size=3D2 face=3D"sans-serif"> -
Work-study is separate. Students in IT make between $10-$15 dollars per
hour as budgeted workers depending on the position.</font>
<p><font size=3D2 face=3D"sans-serif"><b>Is there a standard campus salary
at your institution? If there is, what is it? </b></font>
<p><font size=3D2 face=3D"sans-serif"> -
No, students around campus make anywhere from minimum wage to $15 per hour
depending on the job. They can also work contract positions for stipends
which often work out to more that $15 an hour.</font>

serif"><b>What
other benefits and perks do your students receive by working with you?</b>
</font>
<p><font size=3D2 face=3D"sans-serif"> -
Generally the only main benefit is hands on training with resumeable experi=
ence.
Some positions require the student to be issued a university cell phone,
laptop or other media equipment for the year or by project.</font>

<p><font size=3D2 face=3D"sans-serif">I am trying to conduct an informal su=
rvey
about students that work for Information Technology in higher education
institutions. We have been trying to restructure our program for a number
of years. We have around 25 students that provide classroom support and
staff the service desk serving faculty, staff, and students. Currentl=
y,
our program provides almost no room for advancement; all students enter
at the same level (minimum wage) and stay at the same level throughout
their time with us. We have the added barrier of not being able to pay
our student workers at a higher rate than other work-study positions on
campus. Essentially our students are required to perform more advanced
tasks and require significantly more training than most other positions
on campus but they make the same amount of money as the person checking
ID cards at the gym. We are trying to collect information from other instit=
utions
in order to build a proposal for restructuring our program and potentially
presenting our case to the student wage committee. </font>

students do not major in technical areas so many of them will not continue
in the technology field. We feel as though we need to provide some incentive
to keep them interested in working for us. </font>
