Additionally,
1 - we never get dmca notices (knock knock on wood)
2 - we use exinda to shape all traffic and block P2P (we also shut
down) (just replaced a packetshaper, and love the exinda)
3 - for our residential students, we act as a glorified hotspot (with
filtering of types and content)
4 - Our blocking P2P is a practical decision to protect bandwidth, not
an ethical decision.

Please contact me (off-list if you’d like) if you are blocking p2p apps
like BitTorrents and/or gnutella-like protocols.
DMCA complaints are KILLING me and bandwidth is being consumed at
record rates. We are considering blocking these protocols, in hopes
that numbers for both will improve, and would like to know what the
student/customer response has been. Alternatively, if you have blocked
these services in the past and are no longer doing, why the reversal?
For example, does fear of lynching have anything to do with it?
I absolutely loathe that I am forced to be the protector of the digital
copyright, so don’t flame me for being the “man.” Nor do I applaud
thieves…if you come down on the moral duty side.
I wish that this could wait a couple of weeks for the conference, but
it can’t. Come to think of it, somebody’s gotta do a BOF on this.
Thanks in advance, everyone.
