We just installed Webcheckout (www.webcheckout.net). It is fairly pricy, but an excellent tool tailored for equipment rather than books. We have finished setting it up and gone through training, but we decided to hold off until summer semester to roll it out to our student workers. It comes as a turnkey linux virtual web appliance. It has modules for just about everything you would want and it integrates with AD/Banner/PeopleAdmin/etc well. Just watch out for that maintenance cost. Whew…

Greetings,
At a previous employ, we figured that it made more sense to have equipment loans come from the library. They're experts at getting things back and keeping track of stuff. Also, they had the facility to block things from happening on the academic side or to issue bills for lost goods, something we had political trouble with in I.T.. We traded enhanced support for them taking on the equipment loans. I thought it was a win-win, everyone playing on their strengths.

I used an Access template one year but it was a disaster. The
students workers who entered the information somehow lost records.
Rather than make a homegrown database (don't have the time to
create and test), I would like to purchase one that will read barcodes,
keep an inventory, track who has the equipment and what is overdue.
Anyone currently using a program to do this? I don't want to spend
tons of money for this.
