ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:=20

Under the general supervision of the Director of Network Services, and =
reporting on a daily basis to the Senior Network Engineering Analyst, =
the Network Engineering Analyst is primarily responsible for installing, =
managing, securing, and operating the TCP/IP portion of California State =
University, Monterey Bay's "OtterNet" voice, video, and data network.  =
OtterNet includes, but is not limited to, the West Campus Ethernet and =
Wireless LANs, the East Campus HFC Cable Modem LAN, the community WANs, =
the campus telephone PBX and voice mail systems, and the campuswide =
video transport system.  The Network Engineering Analyst is also =
responsible for the following:

Network Planning:
Thorough understanding of TCP/IP switching, routing, and security.
Develop network configurations including hardware, software, and =
integration requirements.
Research and evaluate network performance capacity and traffic patterns =
in order to make appropriate and timely network improvement =
recommendations to maintain adequate network capacity.
Network Management and Analysis:
Troubleshoot network system failures and ensure appropriate corrective =
action is taken.
Secure network resources from inappropriate access via access control =
technologies.
Troubleshoot technical issues related to viruses, worms, DDOS attacks, =
and network related problem impacting the effectiveness of the campus =
network.
Monitor network traffic, usage, and performance.
Perform analysis of network efficiency and routing of traffic.
Excellent troubleshooting skills.
Network Administration and Support:
Install, configure, upgrade, maintain, and support network equipment and =
software.
Recommend and modify network hardware configurations and network =
software application programs to improve response time, quality, =
efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
Troubleshoot and resolve network problems; refer to vendors and/or =
technicians for follow-up as appropriate.
Implement security and authentication tools such as, but not limited to, =
firewalls, access lists, intrusion detection systems, VPNs, and network =
address translation.
Troubleshoot technical issues related to viruses, worms, and any type of =
traffic related problems that would impact the data flow in and out of =
the campus.
Ensure adequate inventory of network supplies.
Customer Service Functions:
Collaborate with the Director and other IT@CSUMB staff on the =
development of policies and procedures to maximize best practices/cost =
effective utilization of network services and products.
Provide Tier-2 and Tier-3 support to the IT@CSUMB Help Desk regarding =
network-related service requests.
Prepare, maintain, and disseminate network-related Tier-1 support =
information to the IT@CSUMB Help Desk in order to equip them to resolve =
problems at the Tier-1 level whenever possible..
Prepare documentation, FAQs, and other end-user materials for the =
IT@CSUMB Help Desk.
Customer service and effective communication.
Other Functions:

Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Demonstrated knowledge of:
Converged (data, voice, video) network architectures, configurations, =
protocols, and inter-connectivity requirements.
Network traffic and performance parameters to interpret variance and =
service impact to users.
Network troubleshooting concepts.
Network operating system, network architecture, configuration, and =
protocols.
802.11a/b/g and n wireless infrastructure protocols and associated =
access control technologies.
Demonstrated proficiency (skill) in:
TCP/IP, Gigabit Ethernet, Juniper firewalls, Cisco Systems routers, =
switches, and firewalls, CiscoWorks, packet analyzers and shapers, OSPF, =
802.1q, 802.1x, 802.1p, 802.1d, BGP, TCP/UDP protocols, QOS, and DHCP.
CISCO 6500, 4500, 3750, native IOS, VPN, PIX, network monitoring, packet =
analysis and wireless technology.
Configuration and use of various Microsoft Windows operating systems as =
well as UNIX-based operating systems such as Mac OS, Linux, and Sun OS.
Office productivity tools such as Microsoft Office, web browsers, =
calendaring, and e-mail clients.
Using repair, service order, and facilities management applications on a =
telecommunications database management system.
Demonstrated ability to:
Converged (data, voice, video) network architectures, configurations, =
protocols, and inter-connectivity requirements.
Analyze and investigate fundamental to complex networking technical =
problems and solutions for the purpose of making constructive =
recommendations for modifications or improvements to methods, =
procedures, techniques, programs, and /or services.
Understand and apply fundamental to complex networking technical =
concepts and product/service specifications as required to successfully =
carry out work assignments.
Analyze network and system service problems using appropriate test =
structures and related diagnostics.
Communicate both in writing and verbally to both technical and lay =
personnel.
Consistently work effectively, cooperatively, and collaboratively with =
others in both normal and pressure situations.
Install and maintain basic to complex data networking equipment.
Operate applicable network equipment and application software programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, =
Mathematics, Industrial Technology, Telecommunications, or a related =
technical field AND a minimum of three (3) years of progressively =
responsible technical experience that demonstrates acquisition and =
successful application of the knowledge, skills, and abilities =
identified above. Specialized experience during which the applicant has =
acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown =
above may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. =20

Possession of valid California Driver's License or ability to provide =
other suitable transportation approved by CSUMB, in order to respond to =

IP Telephony environments, both traditional TDM and emerging VoIP.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Position is required to work at a computer/video display terminal and =
desk for extended periods of time as well as extended periods in the =
field. Work involves risk of being exposed to electrical shock.  Will =
require travel between campus offices and, possibly, off-campus =
locations. Office environment with standard equipment and tasks.  This =
position also requires sitting, standing, bending, pushing, pulling, =
walking, talking and using manual dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and =
ability to lift 20-30lbs.

SALARY RANGE:

$4,314 - $8,831 per month.  CSUMB offers an attractive employee benefits =
