Hi All,
We are using a small piece of software called WatchDog v9.3 on four
physical XP desktops in our public computing area, it lets us restrict
the local visitor accounts on the PC to just 2 hours a day of computer
use then it boots them out.
Since we are moving to virtual desktops using VMware View we want to
replicate this capability but we are running into some stumbling blocks.
We can't use WatchDog because it deals with local accounts (not domain
accounts) and the interesting part about the VMware View desktops is
they are non-persistent meaning they get destroyed and rebuilt after
someone logs out so if the user's logged in time is being saved locally
it gets reset when the computer gets rebuilt. I think we need some sort
of client/server based model where a domain user's logged in time across
a 24 hour period gets tracked and keeps them from logging into any of
the computers after they have reached their limit.
We planned on setting aside a handful of domain accounts for this (ex:
visitor1, visitor2, etc....) and scripting the changing of their domain
password every 24 hours, this part we already have in place.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
