Jeff,
That's generally what we do with devices like this. However, the concern we=
have is that the iPad can supposedly be used to control the Apple TV wirel=
essly. The assumption is that the Apple TV would have to be accessed direct=
ly over wireless over the iPad. Now if you could plug it in, and the iPad c=
ould somehow still find it, that would be cool.

Can you use the Apple TV on your wired network? It's probably a good idea =
anyway considering the bandwidth it would use.

If you have 802.1x on your wired network, then you or your network folks sh=
ould be able to exempt that port from 802.1x.

Is anyone using the iPad with the Apple TV? I am hearing rumors on my campu=
s that this might be the big, up and coming thing. However, as an 802.1x wi=
reless university, I find the Apple TV collaboration with Airplay not worka=
ble and I'm thinking we will need a potential secondary wireless network ju=
st to accommodate iPad/Apple TV presentations/collaborations in the classro=
om. This seems cumbersome to the users and not at all security-friendly.

Any other ideas are more than welcome,

A word of advice, if you do end up supporting iPads set up the "Find My
iPad" feature. A professor had her personal iPad stolen and that was not
set up before hand. She had set up the Apple mail application and the
thief didn't know so we were able to see what IP address it had but it
never helped us retrieve it. Within a day it went from Massachusetts to
New York city and our Public Safety officers worked with some police in
that area but I think it came down to not wanting to waste several man
hours to track down something that costs that much.
