For anyone looking for a change, we are advertising for a Network Services
Specialist IV, ResNet Manager here at Georgia Southern University. Please visit

I've been in this job for 3 years and am leaving to take a faculty position. It's a
great job, working with great people. Here are a few specifics about our environment not mentioned in the ad:
1. We are currently in the process of switching from Cisco Clean Access to
Impulse SafeConnect (thankfully). So far we are very pleased with the simpler
connection process which is bound to reduce helpdesk calls.
2. We have evaluated Audible Magic solutions for automating RIAA cases and
proactive monitoring, and we are looking at implementation during the coming
year.
3. There are 4,100 residents living in University Housing, with an additional hall
due to be opened in 2012, adding 800 beds. Most rooms have (or will have)
both wired and wireless access by fall 2011. We are continually expanding
wireless in the halls and across campus.
4. ResNet also services computer labs in each of the 8 residence halls, which
were equipped with new computers in 2009.
5. In addition to managing ResNet, the position also manages technical support
for all Auxiliary Services departmental users.
6. The position supervises 2 full-time technical support professionals and 5 to
10 top notch student techs.
7. Georgia Southern is a large scale, small feel research university located in
Statesboro, GA, with a total enrollment of 20,000. The cost of living here is
relatively low. We are about 45 minutes from Savannah, 3-1/2 hours from
Atlanta, and 3 hours from Jacksonville FL.

Here's the position description:
Position Summary:
Manage help desk support for Auxiliary Services enterprise users and the
Department of University Housing's residence hall student network. Manage
student and full time support staff. Coordinate with other campus departments
to provide excellent customer service and first rate technical support to all
campus customers. Plan and organize fall move in and opening activities.
Leverage technical abilities and communication skills to assume team leadership
role for IT divisional project initiatives. Some night and weekend work required.
Minimum Education Required: Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology,
Management Information Systems or related field (additional experience may
substitute for some of the education requirement);
Minimum Experience Required: Five or more years of related work experience;
effective communication (verbal and written), organization, and human
relations skills; three or more years of in-depth experience with network
switches; knowledge of methods, practices, and equipment used in data
communications; three or more years of in-depth experience in the
administration and maintenance on Intel Based Servers; ability to work well in a
diverse environment; successful completion of background investigation prior to
employment.
Salary Range: Minimum $38,713 to Midpoint $48,418
