We've been dealing with this for years and here's what we've found..
=20
We're using alcatel-lucent wireless gear (aruba) and it's fantastic, it's =
the buildings that are a challenge. If your system does it's own RF =
tuning, be careful it cannot turn itself way down. We found that the APs =
in the hallways could see each other too well and were dialing back their =
strength way too much and creating coverage holes in the rooms. Also, we =
found that a mixed environment of a/b/g and N APs was a problem if all the =
APs didn't have N. The clients would prefer the N band over an a/b/g AP =
right near it.=20
=20
I strongly recommend getting a few days with your vendor on site to fine =
tune it specific to your needs. We did and we've seen a huge increase in =
positive feedback.

We are adding wireless to our dorm space and I would like to know how =
other schools are running their wireless infrastructure in the dorms. Our =
dorms are the typical cinder block rooms stacked ontop of each other. We =
are a cisco shop and will be using the WISM and lightweight aps.=20
Are you running your system manually or is the controller doing a good =
job?
How dense is your ap deployment and what is the location of the ap (in the =
rooms or in the hallways)?
What feedback do you get from the users (good or bad)?
=20
Thanks.
