For some time we've used the hold-down-shift technique to override the autologin on kiosk computers around campus for Windows XP. This allows us to have things like conference rooms, kiosk terminals, and other computers auto-login to a limited account with little access and not have users have to log in and out all the time.
However sometimes a user wants to be "themselves" in a conference room for instance, or we simply need to service the machine with an administrator account so the shift-override has been nice.

With Windows 7 it seems this functionality is missing or as some people online have noted possibly just so picky about exactly "when" you press shift that most people can't get it right.

Has anyone run into this problem and solved it? We see software like logonexpert.com that claims to solve this problem - but we're not excited about the potential to pay $10/workstation just to be able to shift-override an automatic login...

Any suggestions or experiences appreciated!
