Jperf is free and is a nice tool for testing: http://code.google.com/p/xjpe=
rf/

I use it for that kind of testing all the time. You can buy software like C=
hariot too (http://www.ixchariot.com/products/datasheets/ixchariot.html) bu=
t Jperf is a solid free option.

Subject: Network testing tools

We're getting reports of some seemingly random network slowdown by our stud=
ent body. It is proving difficult to track down and we've been looking for=
some network traffic testing software to help out. Do you know of any goo=
d tools that can write pings to a graph, record latency, or anything that c=
ould help track down bottlenecks and dropped packets?

Thanks,
