I agree with the Security Essentials. For most things the free program will
work fine. There are quite a few free versions out there, some of which have
pro-versions you can upgrade to. If you have a lot of problems with viruses,
then you are probably better off getting something a bit heavier, but if you
just want some basic protection something like Security Essentials will do
just fine.
