As to whether the card is compat with Linux, those of you who are
currently using this card (how many of you are?), correct me if I'm
wrong, but isn't this card fairly well supported by Linux? That's the
overwhelming impression I've gotten -- that's why I'm really really
thinking about getting this card in favor of the AT1700 -- that, and
3com's Lifetime Warranty.
i dont know about linux, but i've managed to get a 3c509 working under
NetBSD. i'm pretty sure the linux support for this is very good. the
primary response on the net to the AT card is "huh? whats that?" i think
its a agreed that they make good networking hardware such as bridges
routers etc, but their ethernet cards arent really know that well.
sides, i get much better performance with the 3c509 (even the 3c505)
than i see owners of the 1700 getting. i realize that client perforance
isnt that critical, but i've seen some really bad numbers. i mean
sometimes it seems like its worse than a 14.4k slip line i used to run.
and these machines are in dorms, not in ILG's...
