Sorry, it seems I didn't state my position clearly. I myself have already
settled on a 3c509-combo, and seek no further advice for "what card should I
get". That's not at all the optimization for which I sought help.
My question is only regarding the effects of the use of cheap ethercards by
my housemates upon the performance of my machine even when my machine is
not attempting to exchange packets with these cheaper ethercards.
