We use cisco switches and vmps to put a port into a vlan and enforce
registration. When the user plugs into
the port the switch checks against a mac database to see if the mac is
known. If it is, it puts it in the vlan specified in the database. If it
isn't the user is put into a nonroutable vlan with the only access being
to the registration server (also on the same non-routable vlan).
