I think next week we will be installing ethernet level 5 wiring into our
house, Epsilon Theta. We are going with Standard Communications,
buecause of their quote. I would have rather gone with ICS, I think that
they would have done the best job, but unfortunately we could not afford
their services.

This means that my house will want some ethernet cards.

Here's a rundown of my situation, and I was wondering if anyone could
help me out.

The 3com ethernet combo cards are selling 2 for $99, they are the best
but have a shipping time of 8-10 weeks if ordered from 3com.
> Did I read that someone was able to get these combo cards 2 for $169,
But could get them in a reasonable time? Did I read this right?
> And if that wasn't true, or I misread the email, then I think
someone said they could get the 3com cards for $99 each, in a
reasonable time, but would need an order of 15 or 20?

MCC sells the Allied-T cards for ~$70? is that right? And do they offer
comparable performance to the 3com cards?

And what about the NDC cards for $35? I know that they have one 10Base-T
prot, but what type of performance are they?

Will buying really cheap no-name cards hurt the performance of the
whole network, or just that machine?

This letter may show just how ignorant of the PC Ethernet world I am, I
am a Macintosh user, and proud of it. Damn it. So if I am just
completely confused, I would appreciate it if someone would straighten
me out. Thanks alot in advance.
