For all of you who are planning to order the combo deal from 3Com, it
will take at least 12 weeks to ship. I just spoke to a representative
and I was told that due to tremendous response to the offer, they are
backlogged for at least 12 weeks. He gave me the numbers of two "local"
[Waltham and Natick] dealers that sell the combo, but it is $165 instead
of $99. You may want to take this into consideration when you decide to
make your purchase.
Incidentally, I faxed some information from 3Com, and I noticed that they
sell their boards [both standard 509 and the combos] in packs of 5. I don't
think it should be too difficult for 5 people to get together and get a good
deal. I still haven't purchased my card, so if anyone is interested, please
let me know.
BTW, the combo 509 aren't the same as the standard issue. If you'd like more
information, call 1-800-NET-3COM and have them fax you pack # 0025. It
has comparative information on all of the Etherlink III cards.
