Here is what we do at Hamilton.
* Does your network admin group block FTP clients that do not
comply
with the FTP protocol standards? (Specifically any clients that use
random ports, such as QVT FTP)
No. We allow http traffic to be passed as is, we have a very small
amount of bandwidth available for kazaa/morpheous, and then have one
large channel for any other traffic going in and out of the residence
halls. We don't care what they do with the other bandwidth we allocate
to them.
* Does your network admin group give you advanced notice of such
changes about to take effect?
Yes, we give notice to everyone in ITS to let them know about changes.
We also keep a log of any outages on-line for the community.
* Is ResNet at your institution part of the Telecommunication /
Network Admin group?
Kind of. The network admin group, consulting group, and help desk in
ITS all handle various aspects of 'ResNet' functions. (basically,
everyone in ITS supports the students, faculty, and staff)
Hope this helps-
