At Sonoma State University there is a huge demand for computer lab space -
especialy around the end of the semester when people are doing their term
papers. This demand competes with the demand for networked machines on
campus. But labs are expensive.... We hope to capitalize on the growing
number of students living in the dorms who have their own machines: by giving
them laser printing and networking right out of their rooms we take some of
the load off of the labs. We also increase the incentive for students to buy
their own machines.

The second great motivator for SSU's resident hall networking is (big
suprise) money. The residential halls are a self-supporting operation.
Offering services unavailable off-campus is a way to attract clients.
