Like Washington University, at San Francisco State we have 24hr/7day
access, mostly unattended. We had one computer stolen two years ago before
we had the back door to the lounge alarmed properly (it's supposed to only
be an emergency exit). We also had all of our PhoneNet connectors and
Localtalk cables stolen about the same time. So we staple-gunned them all
under the desks.

Since then, we've only had printer ribbons stolen. However, we don't
replace them immediately when this happens.

All the Macs have FileGuard on them to prevent trashing the System Folder.
All the PC's have QuickMenu (public domain) which disallows accessing the
DOS prompt. We configured Windows so that files cannot be erased. The
little buggers loved to tinker with our setup, especially delete system
files.

Initially, we used to provide paper in the labs. However we were going
through a box as soon as it was put out, so we discontinued this service.
Laserprinting will be available at the front desks, which is already
staffed 24-hours. There is a universal copy/laserprinting card used on
campus.

Hope this helps.
